ASTD Volunteer with the Social Learning SIG
Have you jumped onto the Social Learning train by joining our Chapter’s Social Learning Special Interest Group (SL SIG)? If so, you’ve been witness to the efforts of this month’s honored volunteer, Loren Wertz.
(And if not…holy cow! Get on board!)
Loren has been working with Kevin Jones and Rob Porter on the SIG from early on, contributing to the creative process, creating blog postings, commenting on the posts of others, and participating in the creation and facilitation of webinars in support of social learning.
Loren has a natural affinity for technology and is talented in finding ways it can help people in their jobs. Last year, he created online discussion forums for a new strengths-based development program launched at his company, and he provides guidance on their use to employees looking to learn from each other. So, he’s no stranger to social learning.
Recently, Loren began a blog on his page of the Social Learning site to document the process of his company’s implementation of a Learning Management System (LMS). In his postings, he also shares his thoughts and insights from the experience, which is of great value to the SIG and its members.
Loren tells us, "Social learning is what we’ve all been doing since birth and the concept is older than humanity, really. Everyone learns from each other, we all help each other grow, and share the knowledge for the common good. The idea has just been thrust into the spotlight by rapidly evolving tech and stories of the corporate world slowly catching up. Our SL SIG is taking it one step further by inviting people how to socially learn about social learning. That’s the beauty of the SL SIG; giving people tools to help their organizations implement these ideas.”
Thank you for all you do to help our members ease the transition into Social Learning, Loren!
