Volunteer, Conference Committee
This month's spotlight is on a hard-working volunteer on
the exciting and active Conference Committee.
Claire say: “Having recently transitioned into a new career segment, I have found ASTD to play an integral role in helping me learn and explore my career options. With a broad range of industry and discipline perspectives, the ASTD community provides a rich resource for me as well as the entire T & D profession. As a volunteer for the 2004 Cascadia Chapter conference, I met many wonderful colleagues and was inspired to become even more involved -- to give back some of the benefit that I had already received.
As one of the Cascadia Chapter 2005 Conference Speaker Coordinators, I’ve had the opportunity to recruit, select, and assist many incredibly talented people! I’m proud to be working on a project that attracts such high caliber speakers, participants, and supporters. I look forward to the conference next month to see our planning efforts come to fruition.”
Claire joined ASTD in early 2004. You can see that Claire jumped
right in when she joined the chapter and has been an invaluable
resource for us. She, as you can see, is a life long learner and uses her
skills and talents wherever she goes.
She has more than 15 years experience assisting individuals with their life transitions and career changes. She has worked with professional,
technical, and senior executive backgrounds, helping hundreds of
clients assess their strengths, find their “niche”, and successfully market
themselves for new career opportunities.
Claire recently accepted a position with Lee, Hecht, Harrison, an industry-leader in outplacement services, where she provides career training and coaching to the employees of corporate accounts.
Claire’s early career history includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, an operations position with a Fortune 500 firm, and a sales role within a rapidly growing securities firm. While this
experience provided a solid business foundation, it did not provide Claire with the opportunity to capitalize on her greatest strength….helping others recognize their talents and pursue their career desires.
To prepare for her own mid-career transition, Claire earned a Master of Arts in Career Development from John F. Kennedy University. She began her work in career counseling by providing individual coaching to students and alumni as well as creating and delivering workshops to groups at the University of Portland.
From there, Claire leveraged her early corporate experience to launch a successful consulting career for executives and professionals. Most recently, she was a Senior Consultant for McKenzie Scott Partners, an international career management firm, where she worked with hundreds of clients from a broad range of industries including high-tech, financial services, education, non-profits, manufacturing and business services.
Claire holds a Training and Development Certificate, with an emphasis in Management and Organizational Development, from Portland State University.
And she finds the time to be the Chair of PTA for her son’s elementary school where she leads fundraising efforts, develops and implements training programs, and facilitates/speaks at monthly meetings with 100 attendees.
We are so thrilled and grateful to have Claire on our
team!
