Holly Esqueda and Angela Paquette
Volunteers, Professional Development Committee

This month ASTD-Cascadia Chapter is recognizing two critical members of the Professional Development Team: Angela Paquette and Holly Esqueda. These two ladies have been tireless in their efforts helping the chapter to develop an Online Community through the use of a tool called Moodle (Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment).

Holly Esqueda

Holly graduated in 1991 with a BA in Rhetoric and Communications from the University of Oregon. She worked for five years in various capacities in the cellular industry, where she learned she had a love of training. Holly moved to Portland in 1996 where she pursued a career in computer training, and landed at Stoel Rives LLP in 1998 as an MIS (IT) Trainer.

Holly joined ASTD Cascadia earlier this year and has been a key volunteer on two committees. Holly is to the Moodle team what a foundation is to a house. Without Holly, the team could not have launched the online community beta site. She has been the primary provider of technical expertise needed by the team, and has made significant contributions to the overall design of the community. More than anything else, Holly was passionately committed to what she was doing. Holly is the kind of person that every team would want as a member.

Angela Paquette

Angela is a graduate student in Capella University's online program, working towards a Masters in Education with a focus on IDOL (instructional design for online learning). She got hooked on training while working as a systems administrator at Best Buy, where she helped design and deliver call center training. After moving to Portland in 2003, she realized how much she missed training development, and has been working towards her dream career in e-learning ever since!

Angela joined ASTD-Cascadia in January 2006 and has been a key volunteer on two committees. She has been intimately involved with defining the strategic vision, mission, and purpose of the Moodle team. Angela has volunteered a great deal of her time to the development of users' guides and surveys related to the project. She has assisted the Moodle Team with the launch of an online beta test. Without Angela, the team would not have thrived. In addition to all these efforts, Angela has been preparing for an August 4th wedding. Can anyone say “over-achiever?”
