Dean McCrea
Planet Productions
Volunteer, Marketing
This month ASTD-Cascadia Chapter is recognizing Dean McCrea, a member of the Marketing Committee.
Dean has been involved with the Chapter for more than 10 years, almost so long ago he can’t remember when he started! Since that time, he has been an active volunteer for the Chapter, including serving on the marketing committee last year and continuing his involvement this year. The model marketing volunteer, Dean is an enthusiastic proponent of the benefits of being a member of the Chapter – citing it as the best place in Portland to keep in touch with the training and development community, build business, contacts, and develop friendships. Dean’s professional drive and love of learning has led him to take advantage of all that ASTD-Cascadia Chapter has to offer, including attending the national and regional conferences for the past three years, and participating in various Chapter programs.
Dean has also participated in the Cascadia Chapter's eLearning SIG for the last two years. His other volunteer activities include serving as past president of the ITVA and involvement with the IICS and OMPA. He also participates in the Education Cluster and local chapter of the American Marketing Association.
He has put his curiosity and initiative to work on the marketing committee this year by fearlessly diving into large projects including developing recommendations for the web site redesign and assisting with marketing and media relations for the recent regional conference. Dean is also never afraid to ask the hard questions, which pushes members of the committee to evaluate marketing opportunities in a new light to come up with fresh approaches.
Outside of ASTD, Dean keeps busy as one of the co-founders of Planet Productions, a 15-year old firm that offers an unrivaled combination of creative insight, instructional design and technical expertise in the development of custom e-Learning programs that address unique business challenges. Dean says he has worn most of the hats that are available to small business owners, although he now spends most of his time overseeing sales and marketing.
Looking ahead, he is most excited about continuing the good work begun by the marketing committee last year, including analyzing, planning and preparing ASTD Cascadia for the future. We are fortunate to have him on board.
Keep up the good work Dean!
