Chris Cartwright and Doug Dale
Volunteers, Conference Committee
This month ASTD-Cascadia Chapter is recognizing two members of the Conference Committee that develops the Regional Conference.
Chris and Doug, co-chairs of the Conference Keynote Speakers Committee, are back for their 2nd year in this capacity. They have each worked tirelessly, devoting a great deal of energy to building the conference. This dynamic duo sees their role akin to that of a museum curator. In their view, “choosing the right keynoters for a conference is like looking for the right pieces of art to showcase in a blockbuster exhibit”. Chris and Doug are responsible for this year’s exciting, keynoter line-up and have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their work. Not only have they “procured” them, they have spent the last year engaged in their proper care and feeding! Keynoters repeatedly remark that they’ve never been so well cared for at a conference!
Chris Cartwright has been active in the chapter for over 10 years, starting as a participant in the Training Basics course. Since that time he has served on the social service committee, the program planning committee, and helped the professional development committee provide academic credit and marketing support for chapter programs and membership.
Chris is both a student and a professional staff member for the PSU Graduate School of Education. He is a doctoral student in educational leadership, and desperately trying to complete his research proposal this term on Intercultural Leadership. In the continuing Education Department he manages the Training & Development program, a partner program to our Fundamentals of Training program. He also manages an e-Learning program and Intercultural Education program, as well as serving on the campus Diversity Action Council. When not studying and working, Chris and his wife Lisa enjoy their pets, gardening, restoring their 1918 bungalow, yoga, and cooking.
Doug Dale has been in the high-tech industry for the last 18 years working for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) and Contract Manufacturers. During his tenure within the high-tech world he has held many positions including Buyer/Purchasing, HR Generalist and HR Specialist as a Benefits Administrator. Doug stumbled into the training field when he was tasked with developing the first formal New Hire Orientation Program at Fujitsu in Hillsboro, Oregon. He jumped in with both feet when this company began their journey towards ISO registration. Doug was responsible for training all employees on the newly documented Quality System.
Doug graduated from the Portland State University Training and Development Program earning all three certifications in Training, Management and Multimedia and Web-Based Training. He continued his education by graduating from the PSU Extended Studies course in Comprehensive Human Resource Management with a specialization in Organizational Development. Doug currently works as a Training Specialist at Suntron Corporation, Northwest Operations in Newberg, Oregon.
Thank you, Doug and Chris, for your efforts in bringing our Regional Conference to life!
