Steve Slover
Volunteer, Student Membership Committee

This month's spotlight is on a hard-working volunteer on the exciting and active student membership committee.

The Cascadia Chapter recently began an initiative to increase our student membership. A student committee was formed to help create student clubs at Portland State and Oregon State universities. as one can imagine, there is a tremendous amount of work requiring coordination. Steve has stepped up to the plate and has brought his leadership and focus to a dedicated group of students who are leading the effort to build chapter student clubs.

Steve says:  “Having recently transitioned from 28 years at HP, 5 years in HR and 23+ years in Supply Chain management, I took advantage of an early retirement offering from the company. It is obviously too early to really retire so now I find myself busy with our new floating home on the Columbia and graduate school work in Adult Ed and Leadership through the extended campus offering at OSU. Coming from OSU for my undergraduate work in Economics and Sociology, OSU again seemed like a good fit for my graduate work. I became interested in ASTD through contact with Liza Greene and Theme Grenz. I am a new chapter member and I look forward to contributing to the OSU student club. As I transition into my second career I cannot think of a better organization for membership and volunteer work than ASTD. It is a good way for me to stay current on best practices in the industry and to network, learn and be challenged by professional colleagues.

On behalf of the entire Cascadia membership, Steve, thank you for your dedication.
