Breaking Into the Training and Development Field
Panel of Speakers

Are you interested in finding a job in the training and development field? Do you want to hear from some of the industries experts? Then you need to attend this new and exciting student club event.

The program will consist of a welcome and introduction of the panel followed by a Q&A session moderated by facilitators. An overview of how student clubs work will also be provided.

Speakers

Michelle Clinch (non-profit training manager)

Michelle Clinch is currently the Adult Development Manager with the Girl Scouts - Columbia River Council. The focus of her work is to provide training opportunities for adult volunteers and staff who work with girls. As part of her job, she oversees 50 volunteer trainers. Michelle has her Master's in Adult Education and her background includes 10 years of experience in marketing and promotions. She is currently the Vice President of Membership for ASTD Cascadia Chapter and overseeing the development of the ASTD student club!


Theme Grenz (corporate trainer)

Theme Grenz has held numerous training positions over the past 7 years - developing and delivering both technical and professional development programs. More recently, he has been responsible for the development of field training professionals and the implementation of a learning management system. Theme is currently a Learning and Development Specialist for HSBC Card Services in Tigard, Oregon.

Jennifer Webster (consultant and university professor)

Jennifer Webster, PhD, is the principal of Business Strategies, Inc., and provides consulting in the areas of strategic planning, facilitation, team and leadership development, process analysis, and curriculum development. She has provided services in both the private and public sector. Her clients have ranged from Sprint Corporation, PacifiCorp, IBM, Goodwill, Vocational Rehabilitation Division, Oregon State Legislature, Department of Revenue, and the Oregon Episcopal School. Dr. Webster also teaches at Oregon State University in their graduate school of education and at Willamette University in the Atkinson school of management. She moved to Oregon six years ago from Kansas City, where she was employed by Sprint Corporation as an educational consultant. She was formerly the Vice President of Finance for the American Society of Training and Development.

Tim Halter (curriculum and elearning designer)

Tim Halter has more than six years experience in training and training development across a wide variety of products and Industries. He currently works as a Training Specialist for ADP, a business solutions company with close to 600,000 clients worldwide. In this role, Tim develops and implements computer-based training and other forms of e-Learning, as well as course material for both ADP employees and clients. Prior to working with ADP, Tim was a Contract Trainer with OHSU. In this position, he was responsible for coaching employees on career development skills and training them on software applications used throughout the company. Tim brought a wealth of knowledge with him to the position after serving as a Software Instructor at New Horizons Learning Center. Tim has a Bachelor of Business Administration and recently received the ADP Award of Excellence for outstanding contribution and leadership.

Jan Weihmann (community college instructor)

Jan Hart Weihmann is an instructor and career specialist with a wealth of experience in career training. She has a Master’s in Education and has been working with community college students in the Portland area for seventeen years. She is co-author of the career development textbook series, You’re Hired! This series was written for adults with multiple barriers to employment. Jan teaches a variety of classes at the community college, including: career development, GED prep, high school credit, basic writing, basic math, and study skill classes. She also uses the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator with individuals seeking in-depth career work.
