Charismatic Presentations
Michael Grinder
Get a taste of Michael's presentation now LIVE on the ASTD-Cascadia Podcast.
“It’s been 11 years since I trained with Michael Grinder and I still keenly remember the wealth of knowledge he offered me as a “seasoned” trainer. I’ve incorporated many of his techniques into my own presentation and teaching style today. No matter where you perceive your skills level, there is always room to learn more – and Michael can show you how. I learned exactly what “TO DO” and what “NOT TO DO” during a presentation – and why! Attend this one-day seminar with Michael Grinder, and your understanding of effective communication (both verbal and non-verbal) will expand exponentially – guaranteed!" -- -- Julie Bulrice, Director, Development & Training, adidas America and Chief Learning Officer – ASTD-Cascadia Chapter
Intended Audience
This program is geared towards all audiences.
Overview
Why do some people seem to attract attention, to have charisma when they walk into a room? What if you too, could tap into your persuasive communicator and strengthen interpersonal relationships? We all have moments when we influence others...
This course will give you concrete ways to use non-verbal techniques and group dynamics to benefit everybody you interact with — especially yourself!
According to Michael Grinder, in each audience you will find people with the personalities of either a dog or cat. The dogs will eat up what you have to say, while the cats will be more finicky (with all due apologies to the cats among us!). They like intrigue, turmoil, and even a little chaos. They are the ones in your classroom who will be the hardest to reach and in some cases even disruptive. Michael will teach specific skills to reach those participants and draw them out through a combination of lecture, demonstration, and role playing. In addition, Michael will talk about and demonstrate charismatic presentation skills to deliver volatile information to groups while preserving relationships.
The three major focus areas in group dynamics that Michael will review are:
1. Bringing hard to reach participants on board…those who are disruptive both outwardly and by being passive aggressive.
2. How to not get blasted by the audience when delivering volatile information.
3. Understanding the group dynamic and level of irritability by recognizing the stages of group dynamics, recognizing when group members are getting “cabin fever” and irritable and using techniques to respond to each stage
Michael will NOT be covering such presentations skills such as designing Power Point presentations, adult learning styles/theory, or the use of learning management systems for online content delivery.
Outcomes
- Recognize and practice the ingredients of charismatic presenting
- Identify and respond to difficult audiences and individuals
- Increase your observational skills in identifying and responding to group dynamics

Michael Grinder is a master of, and world renown expert in, the power of influence —
the science of non verbal communication, non verbal leadership, group dynamics, advanced relationship building skills and presentation skills.
After years of experience as a teacher, Michael, has been speaking at conferences and conducting seminars on his areas of expertise across the world. He has for years been seen as America’s educator of educators and he is an expert on learning. His work with many education districts and schools has transformed the levels of teaching and learning.
Working both in the corporate world and within schools—with consultants, trainers and educators—Michael is dedicated to the concept that we are in love with the influence of power, when we really need to be in love with the power of influence.
Michael teaches others how to use influence verbally and non-verbally. If one manages for the sole outcome of gaining compliance then one is operating from power. We want to operate from influence. The power template is short-term, focuses on the issue level of the communication and is results-oriented. Whereas, influence is longer term, focuses on the relationship level of the communication and is more process-oriented.
Michael has spent his life studying, dissecting and teaching the complexity that underlies all communication. He has developed a unique, new science of influence through non verbal communication, that is rich in practical, immediately applicable skills that can transform and improve all professional and personal relationships and help you communicate to be heard and understood.
Michael Grinder is the pioneer in teaching others how to perceive non- verbal communication in a group setting. He was personally trained by two well-known experts in the field of communication; Carl Rogers, the wellspring of rapport and relationships, and Michael’s brother Dr. John Grinder, co-founder of Neuro Linguistic Programming.
Michael is National Director of NLP in Education. He and his wife, Gail, live in Battle Ground, Washington, which is across the river from Portland, Oregon.
