Improving Individual and Organizational Cultural Competence
Donna Stringer, PhD

“We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.”
----- Maya Angelou, Poet

If you are interested in learning more about how to improve individual and organizational cultural competence, then don’t miss out on this exciting program.

Why?
When organizations and their members effectively demonstrate a value for diversity and inclusion it can improve productivity, morale and customer service.

Who?
Donna Stringer, PhD, is co-founder and President of Executive Diversity Services, an organizational development firm in Seattle, Washington. Donna has expertise in developing and implementing solutions that help organizations fully value and benefit from the diversity of both their employees and clients. She developed the Inclusive Circles Process ™ that has benefited her diverse clients including United Airlines and Alaska Airlines, the University of California, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, American Red Cross, Exelon, Mobil Oil, PepsiCo and the Catherine T. and John D. MacArthur Foundation. Her most recent book is 52 Activities for Exploring Value Differences published by Intercultural Press.

What?
The five-hour program will cover important issues every training and development professional living in the 21st century should know, including:

• Perception issues across cultural differences
• Cultural value differences
• Cultural communication style differences
• Cross cultural competencies and organizational challenges

This session will also explore cultural issues and tools that can be used to improve both individual and organizational cultural competence. Participants will explore the roles of perception in creating cross-cultural misunderstandings and experience aspects of culture that are most critical to being effective in cross-cultural interactions, including cultural values and communication styles. Interactive exercises will allow attendees to increase self awareness, gain cross-cultural information, and learn eight tools for improving interpersonal effectiveness across differences.
