Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
• Associate Degree or equivalent from two-year college or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience teaching computer skills to non-native English speakers.
• Experience assisting non-native English speakers in a computer lab setting.
• Experience with pre-employment activities and job search skill development preferred.
• Knowledge and ability to collaborate in developing and implementing curriculum.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond patiently and clearly to clients' and employees’ questions/problems.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements:
Mental: Must be able to work independently. Must able to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Must be able to deal with clients and employees in an effective manner. Must be able to utilize a personal computer system, analyze data in hard copy or on computer screen and prepare clear and concise reports.
Interactive/Communication: Must be able to communicate verbally, using a telephone, and in writing to individuals and groups. Must be able to listen for understanding and assist in problem solving. Must be able to work in a team setting and participate in group discussions. Must have the ability to communicate with a variety of personality types and levels of the organization as well as with persons outside of the organization.
Physical: Must be punctual, maintain a good attendance record and be able to work flexible hours to meet the availability of clients and customers. Must have the ability to function in a positive manner in a demanding work environment, demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, respond to priorities and schedules that change frequently and meet work commitments. Must be able to use office equipment- telephone, copy machine, fax machine etc. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend and use a computer terminal for long periods of time.
Technical: Must be able to troubleshoot basic PC and hardware device problems. Must be able to monitor system security. Replenish printer supplies as needed. Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite products. Must have experience with Internet usage. Must have experience with Windows operating system. Must be able to monitor and log computer hardware and software problems. Report hardware and software problems to Program Coordinator in a timely manner. Provide hardware and software recommendations for replacement and upgrade as needed. Prefer experience operating a local area network. Ability to learn new software packages and basic operating system functions quickly and accurately. Must be able to assist IT staff in basic periodic computer lab maintenance. Prefer experience with any of the following software packages: Rosetta Stone, Pictionary, Side By Side, Mavis typing software, Deep Freeze.
