Learning Leaders Forum
Apply Lean Principles to Training
Todd Hudson, Maverick Institute, Bend, Oregon
Intended Audience
The Learning Leaders' Forum is designed for workplace learning professionals who have a minimum of 10 years of workplace learning experience (or equivalent) and are responsible for developing workplace learning strategies. These programs are designed to offer strategic insight and time for round table interaction with peers.
Overview
Are you challenged to reduce costs and increase business results? Lean, the philosophy and methods of eliminating non-valued activities and increasing delivered value, is used extensively in manufacturing, software development and other applications with great success. Applying lean principles to training and development is just beginning and provides a powerful framework to reduce costs, select and design appropriate methods and technologies, and generate measurable business results.
Outcomes
- Identify the 7 Wastes of Corporate Training and find ways to reduce them
- Discuss ideas that will improve outcomes while reducing costs
- Learn how to implement 'Lean Corporate Learning' Core Principles in training
- Effectively frame training and learning language into 'operations speak' for line managers, executives and financial types.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the basic principles of Lean and then you’ll examine training and development practices that challenge the typical approaches to managing and delivering training.
This workshop is an expanded version – with more activities and application – of the engaging, thought-provoking session that Todd Hudson gave at the 2009 ASTD-Cascadia Regional Conference.
