SW Washington GIG Intended Audience Overview Specific Program - September 15, 2010 Coaching Challenges for Trainers and Consultants Intended Audience: Internal or external trainers, human resource professionals, organizational development consultants who have at least 2 or more years of experience, coaching managers or executives for leadership development. This session assumes that participants have one or more years of experience, coaching internal or external clients. This session is NOT an introduction to coaching. Overview: Not surprisingly coaching is HOT! Today, instead of being perceived as a weakness, many companies and organizations heavily invest in coaching services for a wider-range of supervisors, managers, and rising star performers. But along with this increased demand, many internal and external coaches & trainers encounter a host of challenging situations: 1. How do I determine a prospective client’s motivation for coaching? 2. How do I coach an individual who is reluctant to engage due to lack of unfamiliarity, misunderstanding, or resistance? 3. How do I manage boundary issues with stakeholders who see me as their conduit for information? Presenter: Larry Ferguson is a past Board member and our 2004 Board President. Over the past 23 years, he has coaching a host of senior and mid-level managers as an internal and external consultant/coach. Today, he owns and leads Compass Consultant Group (a division of Larry Ferguson & Associates, Inc.), a consulting and coaching company, specializing in working with today’s managers who want to become tomorrow’s leaders.
