Board Message

As my term as President draws to a close, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the great work accomplished by our Chapter volunteers. With the help of these individuals, ASTD-Cascadia has provided fabulous programming and service throughout the year.

We began the year by asking the question, “How can we become a more welcoming organization?” We examined our programming, member services, volunteer management practices, communications, and organizational culture to see where we could improve. Taking our cues from you, the membership, we revamped our volunteer system to make it easier to get and stay involved. We reconfigured the Chapter leadership team to simplify our reporting structure and brought back informal membership meetings.

Led by Grant Axtell, President-Elect, we had a great year of programming. We launched our inaugural Chapter-owned curriculum Series, Managing Learning and Development Projects, and our other Series continued to fill to capacity. Our regional conference, held this past month, offered outstanding sessions on all things creative and innovative in the workplace learning field. We also saw the return of the ever-popular eLearning SIG. And then there was Don Kirkpatrick!

I’d like to close by acknowledging the 2011 Board of Directors. These individuals put in countless hours to ensure your Cascadia membership remains a valuable resource to your workplace learning career. Those leading the charge include:

  • Grant Axtell, President Elect
  • Melinda Laubscher, Past President
  • Stephanie Sarver, Secretary
  • Ron Marley, VP of Interest Groups
  • Kathleen Elliott, VP of Finance

It has been my pleasure to serve as ASTD-Cascadia Chapter President this year. I wish you all the best of luck in your careers and hope to see you at a future Chapter event.
