Message from the Board

The Beat Goes On

Happy New Year! Well, sorta.

Even though it's not quite a new year on the calendar, I'm pleased to wish you a happy New Board Year for ASTD-Cascadia! Thanks to the participation of members, we voted a new board into place as of November 1.

This group of new and returning volunteers inherits an organization that is strong and successful: we're financially healthy, we're providing more programs and events than ever before, and we're consciously trying to meet the needs of as many segments of the membership as possible. New to experienced, Vancouver to Medford, eLearning to coaching, we're working to support our stakeholders' success.

We got a reminder of our strength when five of our board members visited the international chapter leadership conference in Washington, DC, in September. Again and again, we were struck by the strength of our chapter.

To a person, everyone on the board identifies that strength as coming predominantly from one source: our members. Your needs shape our events; your ideas prod our initiatives; your feedback gives us direction. So ... thanks! And keep those cards and e-mails coming!

At a recent board retreat, we identified four areas to focus on this year in terms of additional growth and refinement: volunteers, SIGs (Special Interest Groups), GIGs (Geographic Interest Groups), and technology. You'll be hearing more about these areas in the months to come.

In the meantime, though, on behalf of an energetic and talented new board, thank you for continuing to be a part of the ASTD-Cascadia Chapter community. As you are committed to the Chapter, we are committed to you.

And Happy New Year!
