A Message from the VP of Finance
As ASTD Cascadia members, you see and benefit from the programs and services the chapter delivers. But do you ever think about the chapter’s financial management? Does what happens behind the scenes really affect you? Certainly you want to receive a good value for your dues, but what if you could get more?
Organizations demand three things of their workplace learning and performance professionals:
- Follow (and develop) Best Practices for the field
- Deliver a positive and measurable Return on Investment (ROI)
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility
These tenets are true across industries, in the public sector, and for contractors and consultants. But often the learning professional is far removed from the business finances, so how do you develop the knowledge and skills for peak performance?
One way is to use ASTD-Cascadia Chapter as a model. As a not-for-profit organization, our financial information is publicly disclosed through our web site. You can see what we have done and how we have grown over the past years.
- We continually review and improve our processes with best practices learned from other chapters and other organizations.
- We strive to delight our members and exceed their expectations, treating them as the valued customers that they are.
- We manage member dues to provide high-value programs and services at the lowest possible cost.
As you learn more about the internal operational structure and processes of ASTD-Cascadia Chapter you will gain knowledge and develop skills that will augment the value you offer your employer. Think of ASTD-Cascadia Chapter as more than a resource for programs and services, see it as a valuable organizational model with aspects that you can apply in your workplace.
