Flowers are blooming, trees are sprouting new growth, and summer is just around the corner!
With summer upon us, the sight of new growth excites and energizes me. The training opportunities ASTD offers provide new and innovative ideas to help trainers currently in or just entering the field to “grow” and stay “energized.”
The opportunity to network with other trainers and professionals in the field is just one of many ways ASTD contributes to the development of training professionals The programs and events that ASTD offers throughout the year are
above and beyond any other trainings and events available.
Geographical Interest Groups (GIGs) are the format by which
the Chapter reaches members and trainers outside of the
Portland metro area and is only one of many resources ASTD offers.
GIGs are an opportunity for trainers to listen to other training professionals speak on such topics as e-learning, the rapidly changing technology in the workplace, retention issues, and the challenges of four separate generations, each with their own set of values, in today’s workforce.
GIGs have the full support of the chapter in terms of
strategic planning and operations.
Currently, we are working on building the GIG in the
Central Oregon area and have had 2 events this year. We have
at least 2 more in the works as well as hosting a two-day
Fundamentals of Training in Bend in the fall. We are also
trying to get a GIG going in the Southern Willamette Valley
area.
If you'd like to start a GIG in your area or want more
information about our current GIG-related activities, please
contact me directly for more information. You can also
refer to the Programs link on the web site to what exciting trainings and events are happening in your area.
