A Message from the VP of Finance
I represent the Finance Committee and we are the “cash flow nuts and bolts” of the chapter. Without us nobody gets paid, programs cannot happen and there is no website, blog or podcast.
As you know from your own personal and professional experiences, finance is the economic engine that feeds every part of the organization. The work we do is not very “sexy”, but it is vitally important!
We see ourselves as being an integral part of all four or the chapter’s areas of focus:
- Professional Development
- Networking
- Giving Back
- Business Development
In that regard, we support all of the goals and functions of ASTD Cascadia. In addition to the Chapter goals, we have established 2 goals for the Finance Committee this year. They are:
- To provides counsel and oversight for the current and future financial needs of all areas of ASTD-Cascadia through three activities: budget, financial statements, and financial reviews.
- To explore the establishment of an ASTD-Cascadia Foundation to establish a permanent fund for long range financial needs.
Here’s the good news: as a chapter we are solvent financially. The chapter has had a long history and is in good shape. Our management team and Board of Directors take their fiduciary responsibilities very seriously and review the financial documents at every Board Meeting. We conduct a formal evaluation each year, alternating internal internal and external audits. I can personally assure you that your dues are well spent. You can even see for yourself on the Board Minutes page.
The challenge for ASTD-Cascadia this year is the same one that faces every non-profit organization -- we need your help in order to keep growing with the needs of our membership. Technology continues to evolve and we are planning on updating the website. Our programs continue to expand as we seek to reach more WLP professionals. Our chapter includes a wide geographic region and we want to provide services to every area that needs or wants them. All of this takes both time and money. There are several things YOU can do!
- Tell your training colleagues about ASTD Cascadia and encourage them to join
- Attend one or more programs or training events – better yet, volunteer
- When you purchase tools from ASTD National be sure to use our CHIP code of CH8029 (click here to find out more about this money making program)
I am proud to be associated with such a great group of people. As I told my wife the other day, “I feel as though I have found my tribe". ASTD-Cascadia is a strong and active chapter. Thank you for allowing me to serve you in this capacity!
