Message from the Board

A Message from the VP of Membership

As you may or may not know, Aaron Munter and I recently took the plunge and started recording PodCascadia, a podcast. We interview training professionals and distribute the audio over the internet. It’s a great way to learn on the go. You can listen in your office, in your car, or on the treadmill!

When we started this adventure, I did not know anything about podcasts and was certainly not sold on being a co-host! It is still quite scary to listen to myself, but this week I realized the true value to myself and my employer.

When we were recording the upcoming episode of PodCascadia, Aaron & I talk were talking with one of our interviewees (Valerie and Roger Pease from InspirationWorks and presenters at the April 13 event) about emotional intelligence and its tie to employee engagement. Valerie Pease said that we have to take ownership and look for ways to engage ourselves at work.

On reflecting on this, I realized that being a volunteer for ASTD Cascadia is one of the ways that I take ownership. It’s the stimulation I need to continue to be creative at work and look at my workplace with a fresh perspective. It keeps me trying new things, excited to come to work and I’m more productive because of it.

And, I see this new effort on the part of the Chapter as one more way for us to help you get the most from your membership dollar as well as having new ways to gain professional development.

Want to learn more about how you can become more engaged in life and work? Check out the 4.21 episode posted on Friday, April 21!
