A Message from the VP of Programs
Spring is on its way and as the days get warmer and longer, people are out and about; talking with neighbors, gardening, cycling, and playing catch in the park. It is also a great time of year to come out for ASTD Program events and to meet other chapter members.
The Programs Committee has been busy planning new events and putting the final touches on upcoming programs. Delivering program content that is relevant to our membership and that aligns with the focus areas of the ASTD Competency Model is our priority. The nine focus areas of the ASTD Competency Model include:
1. Designing learning
2. Delivering training
3. Improving human performance
4. Measuring and evaluating
5. Facilitating organizational change
6. Managing the learning function
7. Coaching
8. Managing organizational knowledge
9. Career planning and talent management
The March 6th Portland Program provides an opportunity to network with fellow chapter members and with members of the Organizational Development Network. This joint program, When Training is Not the Solution: Non-Training Interventions, presented by Dan Vetter, focuses on improving human performance and facilitating organizational change.
On May 15, we will have a full-day program with an internationally recognized speaker in the area of non-verbal communication and presentation skills, Michael Grinder. This limited capacity event will be held in the Portland Metro area.
There are lots of fun and committed chapter volunteers that assist with planning, managing, and staffing the program events. New committee members are always welcome!
