Chapter Overview

This page provides numerous links to a variety of documents related to chapter guidance and operations.

Internal Revenue Service

Cascadia Chapter is organized as a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt corporation under the IRS tax code. Our tax-exempt number is 51-0222873. We file a tax return with the IRS each year.

State of Oregon

Cascadia Chapter is a non-profit organization under the laws and regulations of the State of Oregon.

As such, we must file an annual report with the Secretary of State. Our registry number is 229678-89.

One of the requirements of the State of Oregon is that all non-profit boards be familiar with the State Attorney General's document on non-profits. This document spells out the responsibilities (financial, ethical, and legal) of each board member.

Each non-profit is also required to have bylaws and articles of incorporation.

We file a tax return with the Dept of Revenue and a charitable organization filing with the Dept of Justice each year.

National ASTD

Cascadia Chapter operates under guidelines issued by the national organization.

Chapter Strategic Direction

To be the premier resource for training and development in Oregon and SW Washington.

Annual Goals and Annual Reports

Each year, the board develops a comprehensive plan for the following year. The outgoing president prepares an annual report. Both documents are posted on the web site and made available to members.

Board Documents

Each board member must complete and sign documents related to conflict of interest and the statement of responsibilities at the beginning of each term.

Board Meetings, Minutes and Reports

Specific information on meeting dates, locations, times and directions are sent out by the Secretary prior to each meeting and are also posted on the web site.

Minutes are posted on the web site after each meeting, usually within 2 weeks and are also sent out to each board member.

Each board member will be required to submit a narrative report to the secretary about their activities over the prior month. This report will be requested by the secretary about a week before the board meeting. The individual reports are compiled and sent out to the board the day before the meeting.

Board Messages in Mid Month Email

Every month (except December), a specific board member is responsible for writing a message to the membership about their functional area as well as working wiwth the VP of HR to select and interview a featured volunteer and developing an article about that volunteer.

Click here for the list of which board members are signed up for which months.

Chapter Membership

Chapter membership can be searched online in the membership directory. This is a listing of only those members who want to make their information available to other members. You must have your chapter member number to access the membership directory.

Occasionally, companies contact the ASTD asking for resources in specific areas. They can either use the contract opportunity service or search the online Resource Directory. This is a listing of chapter members who want their information made available to the general public.

Affiliated Organizations

On occasion, the Chapter enters into agreements with other membership associations. Normally, we promote each other's events and allow each other's members to attend events at member rates.

Diversity

As an underlying approach to the Chapter's values is diversity. Diversity is not jsut about ethnic diversity but all forms of diversity, including diversity of membership as it relates to the training field. The Diversity Subcommittee developed an environmental scan and guidelines for potential action.

The Chapter also has a list of religious holidays that various groups may observe. Board members are expected to review this list for any possible conflicts with scheduled events. You might also want to check another web site with additional information called Interfaith Calendar.
