What is a Blog?
Blog is short for web log. Basically it is a web page that has sections that are called ‘posts’. The most recent posts are at the top of the page. Posts are organized into categories to help you find them. When the type is blue, it is a click-able link to another blog or web page.
Here are some links if you would like to know more about the basics of blogs.

Reading posts
The homepage of the blog shows the first section of each post. You click on the ‘Read the rest of this entry’ which will bring you to a page that has the whole article. You can get back to the homepage by using the link that says Home, or by clicking on BlogCascadia in the header.
When you are on an article page, you will see links at the top of the post that allow you to click back and forth in date order through the posts. The most recent posts are also listed in the right sidebar. All of the posts on a topic can by found by clicking the categories links in the left sidebar.
Making comments
Blogs can have one author, or multiple authors like BlogCascadia does. One of the things almost every blogger (a person who writes on a blog) has in common, is they hope people will talk to them by commenting on their posts. This is really easy.
On BlogCascadia, there is a link at the bottom of each post. If you are the first to comment, it will say No Comments. After clicking on that link, you will see a place to put in your name, email, website and comment. When you hit submit, if you have never posted before the comment is sent to the administrators of the site to make sure it isn’t spam. Once your comment is approved, it will appear at the bottom of the post.
Your name will show as the author of the post. Your email goes to the administrators, but isn’t published. If you enter a website, it will be linked to your name in your comment.
Writing posts for authors
If you are an ASTD-Cascadia member we welcome you as an author. It’s a great way to try blogging without having to make a commitment to doing it all yourself. Send the ASTD Office an email to request a login. The email is astd@astdcascadia.org
