Adding video comments
By Christine Martell | May 18, 2008
Seesmic enables video conversations. On their own site, people log in from around the world and have conversations by posting short video clips.
OK, I don’t fully get it either. However, some of my blog colleagues have installed a plug in to make it possible to have video comments on their blogs. At first, I wasn’t so interested. But after watching a few, it really added another level of connection to the conversation.
So, I thought it would be another thing to try out here. You do need to have a webcam. If you have a recent Macintosh other than a tower, you are all set with the built in iSite camera. It seems to work differently with every Windows machine, so I can’t help you much there.
Assuming you have a webcam, all you do is click on the Seesmic comment link at the bottom of any post and follow the instructions.You may need to scroll down through blank space, for some reason I don’t understand yet. Adding video comments “}
I hope you will join this experiment. How do you think we might use this technology for training? Or how could it help us as a professional association to providing value for you?

benefits of video comments?

I’m rarely accused of being a Luddite. But it’s a holiday, I’m sitting on my couch in … let’s just say, FAR from professional attire … and there’s no way in the world that I’d do a video comment. But with the power of good, old-fashioned text, I can be snarky and difficult anyway.
Is this a solution in search of a problem? Technology for technology’s sake?

Good question, and my first reaction also. The first time I saw Seesmic, people were basically talking about whatever popped into their heads, and they were getting first time commenters to dance. So think about doing that in your less than professional attire.
As I have used it a couple of times, I am seeing the potential for being able to use it for quick welcomes to participants in a training, for example. Or a way to continue the conversation and increase stickiness after a program. It is still a young application of technology, so I don’t think we are seeing the full potential of it. It’s similar to Twitter, at first it seems really stupid, but after a while it starts making sense and providing value.

Seesmic Wordpress Plugin Fix
June 21st, 2008 at 11:52 am
Hey Christine! I love Seesmic for video conversations, i truly believe that the keyboard is going to disappear from the web for social purposes, soon. Why chat or comment when you can just click, talk, click? It’s going to be huge!
I wanted to tell you that I fixed the problem you’re having with the whitespace in your posts, check out my writeup here:
