Headsets for screencasting
By Christine Martell | January 2, 2008
There are a lot of tools that are becoming available that make it much easier to create online content with images and video. One of them is Jing created by Techsmith. It allows you to capture either images or video off your screen and then share it by email or online.
The only thing you need to make simple screencast videos is a microphone. A USB headset is a common way to get audio into the computer for this purpose. But which one? There are a myriad of options in a wide price range.
I have made a series of four screencasts with Jing to help you get an idea of what the difference sounds like between four different quality USB headsets. You can get to them by clicking on the image below, which will bring you to Screencast.com where Jing video is hosted .
The headsets I used in the videos are:
- Shike Stereo Headset $10-16
- Sennheiser 141 $32-35
- Plantronics DSP-300 $55-60
- Sennheiser 166 $95-100
What do you think? Does this help you get an idea of how different headsets sound? Is it worth the money for the more expensive headset?
