PodCascadia talks with Bob Phillips about Absolute Honesty
Episode 41 of the podcast is available for your listening pleasure. If you need more information about listening to or subscribing to PodCascdia, you can go here.
Blogging
In the opening segment, Aaron and I talk about Tony Karrer’s article in T&D magazine, Learning and Networking with a blog. Here is a post on Tony’s site that gives some resources that were cut from the final article. We also talked about how his blog has some interesting posts on personal learning environments (PLE’s). The other person I mention is Michele Martin at The Bamboo Project. Her posts about PLE’s have transformed how I use and think about the web for my own professional development.
Straight Talk
The feature of the episode is our discussion with Bob Phillips, who is an ASTD-Cascadia member from Bend. He has written a book called Absolute Honesty: Building a Corporate Culture that Values Straight Talk and Rewards Integrity .
Bob talks about the value of honesty and the behaviors organizations need to adopt in order to achieve a culture of honesty. Not only has he written the book, but he has a program called Straight Talk to teach how to use the tools he talks about in Absolute Honesty.
Straight Talk focuses on Six Laws of Absolute Honesty
- Tell the truth
- Tackle the problem
- Disagree and commit
- Welcome the truth
- Reward the messenger
- Build a platform of integrity
You can find out more about Absolute Honesty and the Straight Talk Program on Bob’s company website, R W Associates.
ASTD National
Last month while she was in Portland visiting the chapter, Gina Urgena was willing to stay up late to talk with us about the value of joining ASTD National. She tells us about how the national organization fills a complementary but different need than the local association. She even tells us about some of the more hidden but popular benefits.
We hope you enjoy listening to this episode. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions here on the blog. Aaron and I are centrally involved in both efforts, and we would love to hear from you.
