    Why Blog?

    By Christine Martell | June 13, 2007

The board identified two key values to focus on for 2007, diversity and communication. I believe a blog can serve both of these. Through blogging we can reach audiences who are not served by attending our current programs. We can expand our offerings by providing more variety in topic and how much time commitment is necessary. And we hope we are offering another vehicle through which you can get to know the leadership team and tell us how to better serve you.

In her post Blog for Deeper Learning, Janet Clarey from Brandon Hall Research reports on research that is emerging showing blogging’s positive impact on reflection, critical thinking and writing skills. On eLearning Technology, Tony Karrer has stepped up his call to blogging

The reason that I find myself pushing harder is that I believe the evidence is mounting that it’s an incredible personal learning practice.

I certainly agree. I have been blogging for my own company for a little over a month and continue to be surprised by all the benefits. Increased traffic to our website, new contacts, and most surprising new insights into our own strategic directions.

So I invite you to join me. Participate. Whether you just make comments on posts, join me as a chapter author, start your own blog, or let us know about the one you already have.

Christine, you are spot on. Benefits abound! I spent the weekend rolling my blog over to a new format (though sadly losing all of the posts and comments from the past in the transfer) and devouring information about effective blogging. Word is, fantastic content rules. No surprise. We are all busy and we like to spend our time wisely. Speaking of wise, I have found information from Chris Garrett quite helpful. Check out his site: http://www.chrisg.com

My goal is to facilitate a BOLD discussion about leadership and engagement using my blog. I invite all to the conversation. http://www.boldtrek.com

Come help us change the way we lead that creates a bright future for all.

      Sue,
So sorry you lost all your posts. Anyone have any best practices about how to back up blogs?

The Chris Garret site is great, I sure will be spending some time there gathering blogging tips.

Glad to know we have another ASTD-Cascadia member blogging. Who else? I’ve started a member blogroll on the left sidebar. We shall accept the invitation to bold discussion…..let the conversations begin!

      Christine
